Am I the only one who had parents constantly scream at me "why don't you show me respect" then I would get really confused because I didn't know what respect was as no one ever showed me any?

Its like every time I would get shouted at and called disrespectful I didn't know what they wanted of me?

And I have a very vivid memory of once saying "I don't know what respect is 'cause you don't give me any' only to be slapped across the face and told "you should know what it is"

Like, from where do I aquire this knowledge o wise parental unit
